TCIS Choir Director Welcome
Dear APAC Guests,
Welcome to Taejon Christian International School and Daejeon, South Korea. We are very happy that you have come to this APAC Choir Festival. I hope that each of you will have a great time working with Dr. Buchanan for the next few days. Putting all this music together will be fun as well as challenging.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the people who have helped make this Festival happen. Paul Rader, our activities director and APAC coordinator, Heidi Zickefoose, head of the Fine Arts Department, Jordan Williams for the website, Kirk Hawkins for the program, Barbara Smith–Jang for arranging homestays, all the things PTA does for us, and our wonderful Administration for encouraging and allowing the Arts to flourish at TCIS.
Make new friends, learn about other cultures, eat some bulgogi and above all…
Come to the Music!
Sincerely,
Mary Kubala

Headmaster Welcome
Dear APAC Guests,
On behalf of the entire Taejon Christian International School (TCIS) community, I welcome you to Korea, to Daejeon (Taejon), and to TCIS. Everyone at TCIS is excited to host this APAC Arts event. Our school, located in central South Korea, has a proud yet humble history of over fifty years of Christian international education. Korea is a truly "dynamic" country that has overcome tremendous difficulties and challenges over the last fifty years to become one of the most respected nations in the world. Parents of our early TCIS alumni were foreigners committed to serving alongside the Koreans to rebuild their nation in the 1950s. Today, the city of Daejeon is the center of science and technology for the nation of South Korea.
TCIS is honored to be a member of APAC. The goals of APAC align clearly with the goals of TCIS. We look forward to another opportunity to build lasting relationships as we learn more about you and your communities and as we share about our lives in Korea at TCIS. Our students and teachers always return from APAC events extremely impressed with your schools, communities, and hospitality. Regrettably, our school has been challenged recently in unexpected ways, and the move to our new campus has been delayed. We had planned to host this event at our new campus in the new Performing Arts Center. Even though disappointed, I am confident that TCIS will overcome this brief difficult time and that the school will continue to thrive here in this wonderful country. In some ways, your experience will be unique in that it will be one of the few APAC events held on this particularly historic campus. We will do our best as your APAC hosts to meet the excellent standards that have been established by other APAC schools. Please let us know of anything we can do to make your experience more pleasant and rewarding.
As we begin these special days together, I wish each of you personal success. I trust that you will experience great fun and great fellowship within the APAC choral community and the broader TCIS community. I am confident that the music created during this event will be meaningful to us all. Be assured of our best wishes and prayers for a safe and rewarding experience.
Sincerely,
Thomas J. Penland, Ed.D.

High School Principal Welcome
Dear APAC Guests,
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Taejon Christian International School, and on behalf of the TCIS community, I would like to welcome you to our school. We are excited to have this opportunity to host the APAC Pacific Division Choir Festival for 2011.
Hosting this event as part of the Asia Pacific Activities Conference is a real honor for us. Our school has strong traditions in the fine arts and performing arts, and we are very proud of the work that our teachers and students do to meaningfully promote the arts in our school and in the greater community. Our educational programs at TCIS are founded on values of holistic learning, and hosting this event supports the mission and educational programs of our school as well as yours. In Daejeon, this city enjoys and promotes many varied cultural and artistic activities that are highly respected throughout Korea. In fact, Korea is now going through a cultural resurgence that is influencing both Asia and the rest of the world.
We look forward to sharing great experiences, building friendships, and learning more about you and your communities. Over the years, our students and teachers have come back from APAC events wonderfully impressed with your schools and your gracious hospitality. We hope that you will continue to get to know our school community and enjoy the taste for what Korea has to offer.
Thus, as we begin the APAC Pacific Division Choir Festival, we wish each and every one of you success as you engage in the many choir activities and events. Your years and months of practice and your dedication to learning more about your voice as an instrument has led you to this festival with other like-minded and talented international vocalists. Our best wishes go to you for a rewarding and memorable experience here at our school.
Sincerely,
Mark Pleasants
